Add-it-on is an exploration of a modular lighting system and a playful, contemporary and multifunctional LED lighting design proposal.
It was inspired by nature, especially by processes of growth. Creation of organism. L-systems, cell breeding or brownian motion. It’s all about adding and growing.
The system is composed of flexible luminescent 3dimensional
light fractals that can be linked with other fractals or add-ons to create a modern and sculptural lighting element. You can link as many or as few fractals as you want.
Horizontally and vertically. So it is adaptive to various contexts & environments.
Design your own style of organism. a work lamp, a floor lamp, a wall lamp. By adding a lot of modules it can be even used as a room divider. Or as a “coat tree”.
Add-it-on is multi-variant, not static.
It is a system of luminous fractals. Glowing modules. All modules are addable, moveable, rotateable and shiftable.
There are some add-ons you can easily plug into your structure, like little spotlights or pencil holders.
It can be connected to an optional dimmer to create zones of different light athmospheres in collective or singular modules..

The modular system will provide flexible and creative choices on designs, so that people can use their imagination to explore different structures and combinations. An interaction occurs when users play with the actual physical modules. By putting the components together in their unique ways, people will be able to explore flexible design possibilities with the modules and at the same time, experience contact
with the object.

The curved shape of the seating furniture is sculptural and practical and should symbolize a waiting loop. Waiting should literally be eclipsed by productiveness.
waiting area, office, cinema, telephone booth, music room, playground, dance floor, conferation room, everything is united.
Hence, the time a bench is populary understood as a row of seats should be over and “hold the line” should be seen as a modern alternative to the traditional public space bench. Networkcables and power supply run through the entire loop.
The interactive bench consists of a number of main bodies that are connected to each other via an elastic 3D fiber/fabric that lets users create for themselves the setting most convenient to them. Every single bench is arranged with an iPod-Plug-In, speakers, sockets and a network for laptops.
The design should influence the seated person. moved, open, connected.

AVANT GARDENING:

[ the yearning for the island
The Gaudenzdorfer Grassland is an island surrounded by intense traffic. The goal of the project is to make the island accessable for all, but to keep the character of an island as well.
A border to the endangerments and noise of the surrounding traffic, to afford a feeling of relaxation, recovery, integration and identity. So the three main topics are:

“to make the island accessable for all”
“to find a strategy the island operates as an attractor”
“to find a strategy of  sustainability, so there is a yearning to get back to the island or stay there.”

The keypoint of the project is that it is  not a defenitely designed environment performed by the architect only, but it is more an instrument that can be used and formed by every citizen himself.
Therefor every inhabitant can design his personal spot, depending on his/her needs and desires. this should increase the identification, respect and integration of the human being with the area.

A room for developement and expression of personality, freedom of scope, a collective responsibility, common public interest and utility and nature as a joining element are the keywords to create an identivational and social network.
The urban garden should be more than a masterplan concept. It should be a proposal depending on sociological, economical and sustainable aspects. The basic concept is that every inhabitant of Vienna gets the possibility to express himself by triangulated units.

ausgangspunkt für das projekt ist das integrieren eines singulären funktionskörpers. dieser soll auf die unterschiedlichen spezifikation der funktionen reagieren. grundgedanke ist ein Implantieren neuer architektur in den vorhandenen raum. eine ergänzung vorhandener qualitäten. dieses funktionsband enthält das wegsystem, bar, sitzflächen, computertisch, chillbereich, zeitungshalter, lautsprecher und bühne. der körper soll mit dem bestehenden volumen kommunizieren, aber doch als eigenständiges volumen funktionieren. es wird angestrebt, einen raum zu schaffen, in dem möblierung, beleuchtung, musik, farbe und athmosphäre teil eines architektonischenumfelds werden.

schreite durch das gebäude auf einem lichtsrahl. licht kommt vonoben, seitlich und unterhalb … das helle herz des gebäudes. decke wird zu wand, wand zu boden, boden zu treppe und bühne. der raum ist handlungsbezogen. er ist dazu gemacht, menschenaufeinander und auf die welt der dinge zu beziehen. unprätentiös. einfache tektonische ausformulierung. stimmungsvoll und spannungsreich.

Der Pfojektvorschlag für den österreichischen Expo-Auftritt ist eine Symbiose der Harmonie chinesischer Gärten und der Kunst, Kultur und Natur Österreichs.
Der Pavillon, assoziierbar mit begehbaren Steinen in chinesischen Teichen, integriert sich in eine Füllevon farbenfrohen nationalen Planzen und bildet einerseits ein begehbares Landschaftsbild,andererseits Ausstellungsräume, einen Stein der Musik, einen Shop und ein Restaurant.

_harmonisch ausgewogen. Kein Teil kann ohne den Nachbarn existieren. Das Zusammenspiel der Steine und das daraus folgende Profitieren beiderseits ist der Leitgedanke. Die Steine erinnern im Grundriss an beliebig verteilte Notenköpfe. Erst durch die die Lastabtragung in der 3Dimensionalität und dem Wegsystem, ergibt deren Lage einen Sinn.

Für das Konzept der „city of harmony“ ist es wichtig, dass sich der chinesische Gast mit dem Pavillon identifiziert, dadurch betritt, um sich dann mit österreichischer Geschichte, Kultur, Musik, Natur und Technologien auseinandersetzt. Gleichzeitig sollte immer die Verbindung der beiden Länder im Vordergrund gehalten werden (Stein der Natur).
Die Harmonie zwischen Mensch und Natur und eine harmonische Existenz im Zeitalter von Technik und Fortschritt steht bei dem Entwurf im Vordergrund.
Das Zusammenspiel der Steine und deren Integration in die Landschaft sollte diesen Eindruck versinnbildlichen.

Der einzelne Stein ist ein Rotationskörper und mit möglichst hoher Anzahl identer Fassadenteile einfach und kostengünstig herzustellen.
Die Lastabtragung erfolt durch hoizontale und vertikale Träger in der Zwischenhaut. Die Innen und Außenhaut werden an diese Primärkontruktion angefügt. Als Außenhaut wird eine Lochblechfassade vorgeschlagen. Da die Klimahülle in Shanghai wegfällt, kann eine interne Beleuchtung angedacht
werden. Durch die Leichtbauweise behält der Pavillon seinen temporären, wiederverwendbaren Charakter.
Wie bei einem Kartenhaus stützen sich die Steine durch deren Anordnung und Ausrichtung (harmonisch ausgewogen) Weiters werden sie durch die künstliche Landschaft gestützt.

Die Materialität des Wegsystems dient als Verbindungselement und variiert von Stegen aus Holz bis hin zu Steinen als Weg. Die Wege sind soangelegt, dass es den Besucher wie durch einen Attraktor in das Innere des Pavillons zieht.

Durch die Beleuchtung in der Zwischenhaut und der Lochblechfassade könnten die Steine je nach Besucherstrom, Tages- oder Nachtzeit oder je nachVeranstaltungen differenziert beleuchtet werden. Die Beleuchtung wird interaktiv gesteuert und reagiert zu jeder Zeit auf den Besucher.

2007 mit Christian Flatscher

The project explores the creative potential of the material world on the one hand and a study of living in a compressed space on the other hand.
Living on a small groundfloor things have to get shifted to achieve the largest possible shell.
It is an alternate look of an income-appropriate living unit of 3×3x3m. The idea is to take facilities that inherently belong to living and to its tradition and transform it into a coherent design. Trough its cubic shape, the OrganiCube can be easily stacked and implemented in many environments.
The infinitive space is conceived as a  technological double skin, mainly manufactured out of DuPont’s Corian.
The design shows what the abilities of material in the future are: fluid, dynamic and curvelinearity in one complex shape which inherents all needs for modern living. So the organizational and formal structure is based on funtional elements. OrganiCube defines a new architectural condition outside orthogonal, off-grid and harmonic inside.
Getting all the facilities on a groundfloor of  9sqm, functional elements have to be compact and compressed. Through compression things get folded.
These foldings are a functional alement as well and the Cube provides a high standard of accommodation for one or two people, defining main facilities: living/sleeping/working and a separate bathroom. At one place a line shapes for example the wardrobe and a few steps further it flows into a completely different living setup. All featured curves have their distinctive function and purpose. Through this moving and fluid interior the cube should bring harmony to residents in a sensual way.
